About TrainRunningStatus.live
TrainRunningStatus.live does one thing: it tells you where an Indian train is right now. Type a five-digit train number and you get its current position, how many minutes it is running late, the station it last crossed and when it is expected at the stations still ahead.
Why we built it
Checking a train usually means one of two bad options — an official site that is slow to load and often unreachable, or a travel app that wants you to install it, create an account and look at a booking funnel before it will answer a simple question. Most people checking a train are already standing on a platform, on a patchy mobile connection, and they want one number: how late is it.
So this site is deliberately small. No login, no app to install, no booking flow. The page loads in about a second on a mid-range phone, and the answer is at the top.
Where the data comes from
Live running positions originate from Indian Railways' own train enquiry feed, which we access through a third-party data provider. Train names, routes and timetables are built up from those same responses and stored on our own servers, so the schedule you see on a train page is served directly by us.
We are not Indian Railways and we have no special access. If the upstream feed is wrong or unavailable, we will be wrong or unavailable too — and we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise. For anything that matters, such as catching a connection or a flight, confirm with the railways directly.
Accuracy, honestly
- Positions are reported by the railways, not measured by us. A train can sit unreported between stations for a while.
- Delays change through a journey. A train that is 40 minutes late in the morning can make up time before it reaches you.
- Timetables change. If you spot a route or timing that looks wrong, please tell us — it is the fastest way for us to fix it.
Who runs it
It is a small independent project, not a company with a call centre. That has a real upside — there is no sales team, no upsell, and nothing on the page trying to sell you a ticket — and a real downside, which is that replies to email are not instant.
You can reach us on the contact page. If you want to know what we do and do not collect, that is set out in the privacy policy.
