What is train running status?
Train running status is the live position of a train right now — the station it has most recently passed or is standing at, how many minutes late or early it is against its scheduled time, and when it is expected at the stops still ahead. It is the answer to the only question that matters when you are waiting on a platform: where has it actually reached.
How do I check the live running status of a train?
Type the five-digit train number into the box above and open the page. You will get the current position, the delay in minutes, the next stop with its expected arrival, and the full station-by-station timetable. If you do not know the number, type the train name instead and pick it from the list.
Why does the status say a different time from the timetable?
The timetable is the schedule the train is supposed to keep. The running status is what is actually happening today. When a train is delayed, every arrival time after its current position shifts by roughly the same amount, which is why the expected time at your station can be well past the printed one.
How often is the running status updated?
The position comes from the railways' own live feed and is re-checked when you open or refresh a page, rather than on a fixed timer. Between updates the expected times are interpolated from the last known position, so a train that has just left a station shows sensible figures rather than freezing.
